There are plenty of Christmas movies to watch. Whether you like to watch them with family or on your own, there are a few that will get you in the holiday spirit. Here are five to check out.
A Christmas Story
A Christmas Story is an iconic film that almost everyone has seen. The movie is widely credited with launching the holiday genre. It tells the story of Ralphie Parker, a boy who wants a Red Ryder Action Air Rifle for Christmas.
This movie is full of laughs and surprises. You’ll be amazed by Sarah Jessica Parker’s character, who finds joy in unexpected places. There are plenty of hysterical moments, but there are also a few touching scenes.
As you might expect, the film takes place in the fictional town of Hammond, Indiana. During the holidays, the family finds themselves facing many challenges, including the loss of Ralphie’s father. Nevertheless, his mom begs Ralph to make his Christmas a special one.
Luckily, Ralph’s efforts are rewarded. Ultimately, his efforts yield the best Christmas of his life.
Gremlins
If you want to get in the holiday spirit, watch the movie “Gremlins.” It’s an offbeat cult classic that’s perfect for the season.
Directed by Joe Dante, Gremlins takes place in a town that looks like a giant Christmas tree. But instead of the traditional decorations, it’s filled with scaly green goblins called mogwai. They’re vicious creatures that come to life when they’re exposed to light.
The story follows Billy Peltzer (Zac Galligan) as he receives a mogwai as a Christmas present. He’s given three rules to follow. However, when Billy breaks them, he turns his new friend into a monster.
Gremlins is one of the few Christmas movies that features a spooky setting. Unlike traditional Christmas films, it is a satirical take on consumerism and greeting card America.
Love Hard
Love Hard is a Christmas movie that’s worth checking out, especially if you’re a fan of festive films. Featuring a star-studded cast, this rom-com teaches us that love isn’t always what it seems.
Taking place in a small town in rural America, this film has a lot to offer. While it might be a bit cheesy, it does have a few nice touches, like a plus-sized best friend and a beautiful female journalist.
Love Hard is a fun rom-com that features a surprisingly high-caliber cast, a cool plot, and a few novelty moments. If you’re looking for a Christmas movie to watch on Netflix, this might be the ticket.
The best part is that it’s a free movie. It also features one of the best soundtracks I’ve heard all year. In the spirit of the season, I recommend you grab your favorite aficionado, a cup of hot cocoa, and get to watching!
Single All the Way
“Single All the Way” is the name of a Netflix movie that was released in December of 2021. The title may be short on substance but the film has a solid cast, including Luke MacFarlane, Jennifer Robertson, Michael Urie, Barry Bostwick and a host of talented supporting players. It’s a holiday themed romcom that is sure to delight the whole family.
A snarky relative tries to convince her brother to help her write her play, but he’s not having it. In the sexiest gimmick department, however, he manages to get his best friend to come home for Christmas. What ensues is a slew of highs and lows.
There is no shortage of gimmicks to be found in this film, with one particularly big one starring a kooky Aunt Sandy. Notably, the film is not overly child-friendly, so a good parental steer should be had.
Little Women
If you’re a fan of the classic novel “Little Women,” then you’ll love this adaptation. This film captures the homey spirit of the original story. It even recycles dresses and accessories.
Adapted from Louisa May Alcott’s semi-autobiographical novel, “Little Women” is the tale of four young women growing up in a Massachusetts town. It deals with the Civil War, the loss of one sister, and the genteel poverty that is part of their lives.
With an all-star cast including Winona Ryder, Susan Sarandon, Christian Bale, and Kirsten Dunst, this “Little Women” movie is sure to get you in the Christmas spirit. But it’s not the only adaptation of the novel to hit the screen. Here are some of the best.
For a more modern take on the “Little Women” story, try the ’90s remake. The Precher’s Wife is based on the book and is directed by Cary Grant. Denzel Washington and Whitney Houston also star.
